Certainly, the integration of 3D scans and advanced technologies into the film and entertainment industry may raise concerns among actors about job security. However, it's important to understand how these technologies can potentially benefit actors and the overall industry.

  1. Longevity of career: With a 3D scan, an actor's likeness could be preserved and used long after they've aged, retired, or even passed away. This extends an actor's career significantly and allows them to 'perform' in roles that they would not otherwise be able to due to age or physical limitations.

  2. Safety: Dangerous stunts or scenes involving risk can be executed using a digital double, reducing the chances of harm to the actor. In a way, 3D scans can offer an added layer of insurance for actors, especially in action-packed productions.

  3. Efficiency: Actors often have tight schedules and shooting can take many hours. With 3D scans, some scenes could be filmed using the actor's digital double, giving them more personal time and potentially reducing stress and fatigue. This way, they can focus on delivering better performances in scenes that truly require their presence.

  4. More control over performances: Using 3D scanning technology, an actor's performance can be captured in more detail and then tweaked or adjusted in post-production to better fit the narrative. This can empower actors to deliver even better performances.

  5. Expanded creative possibilities: With 3D scanning and digital doubles, actors aren't bound by physical limitations. They can play characters of different ages, races, or even non-human characters that would be impossible to portray using traditional methods. This can open up a wealth of new opportunities for creative expression and diversity in casting.

  6. Continuity and consistency: 3D scans can help maintain the consistency of an actor's appearance across multiple takes, scenes, and even sequels produced years apart. This is particularly important for franchises and long-running series.

  7. Revenue stream: Actors could potentially negotiate contracts to receive royalties for the use of their digital likeness, similar to how they would for traditional performances. This could offer a new stream of income.

The future of the film industry, as with many others, is being transformed by technology. However, it's important to note that 3D scans and AI cannot replace the unique talents, emotions, and creativity that human actors bring to their roles. These technologies should be seen as tools that can augment and enhance actors' performances, rather than replace them.

  1. Compensation: The SAG should argue for fair compensation models for the use of an actor's digital likeness. This could involve upfront payments, royalties, or other types of residuals. Just as actors are compensated for their physical performances, they should also be compensated for the use of their digital likeness, whether in the original production or in any subsequent productions.

  2. Control and Consent: Actors should have a say in how, where, and when their digital likeness is used. This includes both during the initial production and in any future uses. This would allow actors to maintain control over their image and reputation, much as they do now.

  3. Safety and Well-being: The SAG could advocate for the use of digital doubles in risky scenes to protect the physical well-being of actors. However, they should also ensure that this does not lead to actors being pushed to do more dangerous stunts under the assumption that a digital double can take their place if necessary.

  4. Training and Transition: As with any major technological shift, there's a risk that some members of the guild could be left behind. The SAG should advocate for training and resources to help actors adapt to these new technologies and methods of production.

  5. Recognition and Awards: Just as the SAG recognizes traditional acting performances, they could push for recognition of performances that heavily involve the use of 3D scanning and other advanced technologies. This could include new categories or distinctions within existing categories at award ceremonies. REMEMBER THIS GOING FORWARD - AI will not replace you, A person using AI will. Take control and be the person!
